Associate Consultant: John Rason
John Rason is an expert in the human resources, outsourcing and business
development fields, having worked across a variety of industries including
technology and professional services.
While at Ernst & Young, John advised clients on process improvement,
benchmarking and outsourcing in a variety of industries including logistics,
banking, brewing and mobile telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.
At Cable & Wireless, he was responsible for delivering management
and employee training in Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan and the Maldives.
John has twice been an international assignee, first in Saudi Arabia
developing that Government’s telecommunications systems followed
by Latvia, where he held the position of Human Resources Director for
the newly-privatised state telecommunications company.
John specialises in the Global Talent Management and Global Mobility
fields, helping clients maximise their returns on investment from executive
secondments. These activities include organisation design, assignee
policy development, supplier selection, business process improvement
and strategic outsourcing strategy. His research with global companies
finds 1-3% of companies’ employees are expatriates, yet they represent
9-12% of total labour costs. With more than 50% of re-patriates exiting
the organisation, organisations are often unaware of these costs of
lost people and capital investment to competitors.
In addition to his advisory work, John has held commercial management
roles including Whitbread Retail Division where he launched the first
fifteen ‘Wine Rack’ Stores in the UK. More recently, at
GMAC Global Relocation Services (a specialist General Motors company),
John was Business Development Director, developing their European sales
and marketing capabilities, raising market awareness and building corporate
awareness for GMAC’s International Global Mobility services. He
successfully launched their Executive Forum series and regularly wrote
articles for Expatriate Adviser magazine, Expatica magazine, and the
International Herald Tribune. He has also been a keynote contributor
to Management Centre Europe’s Global Talent Management Annual
Conference.
He holds a Masters Degree in Managing Human Resources from Kingston
University, Surrey and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel
and Development. Amongst his hobbies include Ipswich Town Football Club
matches now that he has retired from playing Rugby Union, swimming and
spending time with his twin sons.
