Associate Consultant: Bernard Harrop
Bernard Harrop provides corporations and public bodies with advice
on how best to address emerging issues in the travel industry.
Formerly American Express Business Travel Europe’s Director of
Industry Affairs and Strategic Development, he is the founder of a specialist
consultancy advising on the development of “responsible business
travel” practices; including duty of care, environmental programs,
and traveler health/stress policies.
He draws on a network of experts from the business and academic worlds
who have developed a range of white papers, assessment tools, reports,
and diagnostics to aid companies in managing risk and stakeholder interests.
This is supported by facilitation and deep industry knowledge to improve
the performance and sustainable returns on investment for companies.
Bernard is also a founder member of the ‘Icarus’ committee
of the Institute of Travel Management - an organisation charged with
the development of corporate responsibility practices in travel, a member
of the Centre for International Business & Management Unit at Cambridge
University (CIBAM), and a frequent speaker on travel-related issues
on the Cambridge University MBA programme.
As a recognised industry expert and commentator, particularly in the
field of travel related regulatory and corporate responsibility issues,
Bernard was a member of the 2007 judging panel for the prestigious UK
Business Travel World Awards and in 2005 was voted “one of the
top 25 most influential executives” in global corporate travel
by the leading US travel publication, Business Travel News.
He has held a number of senior management positions including Commercial
Director for American Express Business Travel, Europe and Head of Global
Sales for British Airways.
